12/31/09    Looking Back at 2009

So, a New Year! And boy am I excited about it! I was so excited, I decided to mess around with my website. So the real story with that...

The whole '007 Theme' is really sort of a tongue in cheek joke regarding my nickname "Super Beth". That nickname was actually given to me by Kelly Holder (than a member of Barika) when I took the classes. The crazy nickname stuck and so this year, I've decided to have some fun with it. I am actually hoping to get some shirts printed up and have available through the site as a way to raise money for the trip to Cues and Tattoos in Seattle. If you haven't heard, our troupe Tamarind is going out West to make the pilgrimage. I am very excited and deeply honored to be apart of such a great event.

Aside from that, I was just bored of the old look, but don't worry. I am sure it will be making a reappearance at some point during 2010...

Aside from that I just wanted to say a big Thank you to the wonderful ladies I have had the extreme pleasure of dancing with both in Milwaukee and Fond du Lac and some other places too!

Other than that, check back frequently for upcoming items. I will be doing a lot of traveling for workshops and shows, but always have time to answer questions and dance with new people.

Much love and Happy New Year!!

12/10/09    UWM Student Salon    I had such a good time at the "Night of Mayhem" (so named by the students)!
I feel so fortune to continually be surrounded by such outstanding, talented individuals. In this case, they also brought some of the coolest audience members as well! There wasn't a soul who wasn't dancing and just having a good time!
Thanks so much ladies and I'll see most of you back next semester!!

11/20/09    Holiday Rest    Just wanted to say thank you to the students who brighten my classroom each and every week. I would also like to the thank the other dancers I have met throughout the year! I feel blessed to be allowed into the lives of so many wonderful people. During this Thanksgiving holiday, I will be giving thanks for each and everyone of you I have had the pleasure of dancing with this year! Bear
11/14/09    Pat Kellar Festival of Dance 2009    What a great way to round out a busy and joyful year of dance. Tamarind got to perform at Pat Kellar's Festival of Dance with the outstanding performer Morocco.

I was incredibly inspired by these fabulous ladies who defy the stereotype of a bellydancer having to be young and ultra thin. Thank you to the fine women who serve as an inspiration to us all!

9/12/09    Jim Boz 2009    What an outstanding entertainer!!
Jim Boz was fantastic!! He had the crowd cheering, laughing, and eating out the palm of his hand!

An excellent teacher as well! I took the musicality and veil workshops; and I can't rave enough about his understanding of music and dancing. If you ever get a chance to see him or take a workshop, do so!!

I hope he returns again next year!

Thank you to Shaia for bringing Jim Boz back to Milwaukee!

9/12/09    Fondue Fest 2009    Well, sometimes all things don't turn out exactly as planned. It's times like this I am so glad we do improv!! We had some issues with our music. But, thanks to Mike for some quick thinking and quick wiring work, we had our music playing with minimal concern.

I'd like to say a special thanks to the ladies in Fond du Lac for some outstanding dancing under pressure and in the hot sun!
I hope to perform again next year!

Thank you to my troupe mates, the lovely ladies of Tamarind!

7/11/09    Bastille Days 2009    Talk about a great vendue! I was so happy to have our sound guy Paddy return and the new guy Brent did an awesome job!!

The Tamarind students did a stupendous job! I realize it can be a very challenging thing to get up on the stage for the first time, but these ladies did it with a lot of poise and confidence. And let's not forget to acknowledge the great audience! The people were fantastic! There were other fabulous acts such as the can-can girls, Jam Ak Jam, and Michelet Innocent to name just a few. I hope to perform again next year!

Thank you to my troupe mates, the lovely ladies of Tamarind!

6/13/09    PrideFest 2009    The stage was great! We performed at the Health and Wellness Stage right off the lake and it was gorgeous! I was so exciting to be there.

The best part by far was the audience! The people were just so welcoming and jubilent. They cheered and participated in some dancing themselves. I so hope we get asked back next year!

Thank you to my troupe mates, the lovely ladies of Tamarind!

Thank you again students for all your hard work and for putting on such a great demonstration!

4/11/09    Memorial Union Theater with Tamalyn Dallal    Over the years, I have seen a tremendous number of outstanding performers, but I can honestly say, that the performance by Tamalyn Dallal was the among the most enjoyable performance I've ever seen. She radiates a life and energy that are conveyed in each gesture. I was absoutely mesmerized by her hands and arms. If you ever have a chance to take a workshop or catch a performance with her, do not hesitate!!

The show had excellent, excellent performers! I was so impressed by the women of UW Madison! I so hope that we get asked back next year! Thank you to the wonderful ladies I got to dance with! Our performance went so well!!

Thank you to the UW Madison Belly Dance for putting on such an excellent show!

4/4/09    Tripoli Shrine with Faten Salama    Let me start by saying what an excellent show Samantha Fairuz and Denise put on!

It's hard to pick out my favorite performance among all the top notch talent at this event! The dancers were on fire! The headliner Faten Salama was incredible! She had the crowd in the palm of her hand with her dance and simply radiated energy. A truly memorable performance.

Thank you to the Samantha and Denise for including us!!

4/3/09    Farewell to Zephyranthes!    What better way to say our farewell to Zephyranthes than with the blues!

The crowd was hoping at Club Garibaldi's this last Friday! Highway 414 opened the night with some hot tunes. Then we took the stage for a couple of songs. The crowd was in a festive mood and seemed to really enjoy the dancing. Hounds Tooth than took the stage and the lead singer Jamie was on fire! We had another set while the band took their break, and then danced with Hounds Tooth. It was fantastic. My only sadness was that our beloved Kim wasn't able to make it out due to other committments. On the plus side, we will continue to dance together in Tamarind!

Thank you to Hounds Tooth for having us!!

3/28/09    Dare to Be Aware at Mitchell Domes    I had a fantastic time at the Domes!

We (Tamarind) had our booth in the Tropical dome. We had a number of individuals walk up to us and ask about classes. Our performance at 12:30 went really well. If you have a chance to visit the Mitchell Domes, do so. It's worth the trip!

Thank you to the coordinators for having us!!

3/15/09    Mississippi Masala    Let me start by saying how much fun my drive was! Despite the 4 hours one way, the time I got to spend in the car with my troupe mate Crystal was a RIOT! Thanks Crystal!

The show was filled with truly talented ladies! I was impressed with the students who were relatively new to the ATS style, and yet got on the stage with the confidence of seasoned professionals! The performers came from far and near, and did NOT disappoint! I was truly stunned to see a pregnant Melanie perform a layback during one of her numbers without breaking a sweat! You go girl!

I don't know that words can convey the joys of spending time with other sisters around the globe. The ladies of Tribe Unda were wonderful! Never have I felt more welcomed than I have there! Aside from putting on a great show with some outstanding performers, the hospitality of Melanie and the ladies was beyond measure. A true joy and I hope to return very soon!
For those of you who are anywhere near Rock Island, IL, make it a point to stop in and take a class.

3/14/09    1st Annual Fox Valley Bellydance Seminar
and
International Night of Dance
I had a great time this Saturday!
I took the Drum workshop with Debbie Manthey and it was fantastic! The class was a good pace, easy to follow, and they even provided drums to those who did not have one! What I liked best was Debbie made it a point to give each individual some personal attention to ensure they had good form and technique (which I really benefited from!) Thank you so much!

The show was tremendous with many excellent performances including some Traditional Menominee Native American dancing! My only sadness was that I was unable to stay to see Stephanie Masters perform! (Although, I am sure she wowed the crowd with her characteristic flare!) The performers were just fantastic and the crowd showed a lot of enthusiasm.

Thank you so much to Kelly of the Shimmy Shoppe for having us up!
